TABOR HOUSE MUSEUM IS OPEN MID MARCH THROUGH MID DECEMBER.
Ellijay, Georgia
Honoring the History and Heritage of North Georgia
The Tabor House Museum will be closed November 28, 29, & 30, 2024 so our volunteers can celebrate Thanksgiving with their families.
We've updated old displays, and added new ones. We will be open on Thursdays, Fridays, and the first four Saturdays of each month from 11:00 to 3:00. However, in order to be open all of these hours, we need more volunteers.
We had a record number of visitors in 2023. We want to thank all of our volunteers and sponsors for such a successful year.
In order to meet the increasing interest in the museum, we are always looking for additional volunteers. Volunteer opportunities include: tour guides, general maintenance and gardening. Consider being a part of this great group of history loving friends. If you are interested, please press the contact button below and let us know.
If you can support us financially, please consider becoming a member or a sponsor. Information on the benefits of membership and sponsorship are available by clicking on the Membership button on this website.
It's here! The book you've been waiting for that includes articles written for magazines and newspapers about Georgia's Indian history.

The Tabor House Museum honors the history and heritage of our county and region.
The museum contains artifacts and donated items related to Cherokee history, early settlers, local history, the civil war, and military history.
Donated to the Gilmer County Historical Society in 2008, the Tabor House is the oldest family home in the city of Ellijay. Step back in time at this 1870's Victorian-era reconstruction period home filled with artifacts of North Georgia's history of the Cherokee Indians, early settlers, local history, the Civil War, and military history.
We welcome visitors to tour the Tabor House Museum either self-guided or with a volunteer who can share interesting details about the Tabor House and the displays.
Tours are FREE.
Donations are appreciated.
The Tabor House Museum is open 11am-3pm Thursdays, Fridays, and the first four Saturdays of each month.
For group tours of 6 or more people, please contact us in advance to schedule times other than our regular hours.
The museum is open mid-March to mid-December.
Located in Downtown Ellijay, behind the Gilmer County Court House at 138 Spring Street
The Gilmer County Historical Society, Inc. (formerly Historic Preservation Society) was formed in 2004. In 2007 the organization’s name was changed and a 501c3 non-profit was formed.
We believe that every town has a history, and that history involves persons, localities, and incidents which may be highly important to know for years to come.
